![]() Reinforcing the theme, the LV 525 movement is in the shape of a skull, visible through the back of the Carpe Diem watch, only a handful of which will be made each year. The central snake’s head lifts up to reveal the hour aperture positioned on the forehead of the skull, while the rattlesnake tail oscillates towards the minutes, placed below the power reserve hourglass. ![]() To reveal it, simply push the reptile-shaped push-piece on the right of the case. This animated tableau is subtly decorated with enamel and engraving. 558 Likes, 5 Comments - SJX Watches (sjxwatches) on Instagram: The louisvuitton Tambour Carpe Diem made its debut alongside highly complicated watches. On the Tambour Carpe Diem, the time can be read on demand. ![]() Meanwhile, the skull winks to reveal a Louis Vuitton Monogram flower in one of its sockets at the same time as its jaw opens in laughter to reveal a message: “Carpe Diem”. The snake lifts its head to reveal an opening in the middle of the skull for the jumping hours display while the tip of its tail flicks across the minute scale, underneath the sandglass that measures power reserve. When the serpent-shaped pusher, on the right side of the 47mm gold case, is pressed, the dial is transformed into a moving spectacle. All this sits within the Tambour Carpe Diem’s 18k pink-gold case, capped with sapphire crystal displays, and finished off with a premium leather strap and pink-gold buckle. This Carpe Diem watch is very much a contemporary iteration in the form of a snake and a skull that give the time, without hands, on demand. The hand-wound movement is made up of a total of 426 components, and boasts of an impressive 100-hour power reserve. Using a super-sized 46.8mm 18k pink-gold version of the popular Louis Vuitton Tambour case, the Carpe Diem is probably the first public version of the secret high-complication watches the brand’s Swiss facility produces. The very first automata, or jacquemarts in horological parlance, struck the hours on tower clocks. It is out of this context that the Carpe Diem watch emerges from the shadows. Louis Vuitton has been quietly producing automata watches for private clients for some years, but this is the first time the brand has made its expertise public with a vanitas.
